Anthony Stafford Beer was a British cyberneticist, management theorist and consultant, operational researcher and professor at Manchester Business School. He is known for his work in the fields of operational research and management cybernetics, specifically in relation to Project Cybersyn, of which he was the principal architect. He is also known for his heuristic in systems thinking that "the purpose of a system is what it does".
