Rut Brandt var gift med Willy Brandt mellom 1948 og 1980, og gjorde som borgermesterfrue i Berlin og tysk utenriksministerfrue og kanslerfrue en stor innsats for å styrke forbindelsene mellom Norge og Tyskland. Hun er blant annet tildelt Den Kongelige Norske Fortjenstorden.
