Álvaro Chaves Mendoza fue un antropólogo y profesor colombiano. Descubridor de la única estatua bicéfala de América. Realizó trabajos arqueológicos en Tierradentro, Cauca por los que recibió el Primer Premio de Nacional Arqueología en 1976.
